Our New Volunteer Ambassadors!
Here they are – Lorna, Angela and Toni, our newest Make-A-Wish Ambassadors, recognised for their outstanding contribution as volunteers.
They visit wish children to capture their One True Wish. They raise money. They take part in challenge events. They bring different experiences and come from different parts of the country. They're all amazing!
Lorna, Angela and Toni are the first volunteers in the history of Make-A-Wish to become Ambassadors. Alongside the charity’s patrons, they’re people who go above and beyond to raise funds for and awareness of the charity. They use their skills and networks in different ways to help grant wishes.
Lorna, Angela and Toni have been recognised as the three most active volunteers and received the title during Volunteers’ Week in June.
They were all delighted to find out about it.
Lorna said about receiving the honour: “I was absolutely delighted and extremely proud to be appointed Make-A-Wish Ambassador. I believe in the power of Make-A-Wish implicitly and that belief has grown stronger in the 14 years of volunteering. I love the fact that locally I’m known as the Wish Lady, why wouldn’t I?”
Toni stressed how special it felt: “I feel honoured to have been asked if I would like to be an Ambassador for Make-A-Wish. Of course, I said ‘yes’ immediately, just in case anybody changed their mind! It does seem special to have my contribution recognised when being able to work for the charity is already so rewarding. I can honestly say it is a privilege to work with such wonderful people and to meet wish children and their families, without whom there would be no Make-A-Wish.”
And Angela added: “It is an honour to become an Ambassador. Recognition is always appreciated; especially that volunteering for Make-A-Wish is something that I love to do as it enables wonderful wishes to be granted for some of the many children that live with a life-limiting condition. I will continue to volunteer and support the charity that has a special place in my life.”
Very important people
Lorna, Angela and Toni have been chosen from among more than 800 amazing people who every day volunteer countless hours to help grant wishes.
Every volunteer has played a huge role in what Make-A-Wish is today but Lorna, Angela and Toni have demonstrated outstanding commitment over last three years and we wanted to honour that by giving each of them the title of the ‘Ambassador’.
Volunteers across the world have contributed to what Make-A-Wish is today in the UK and internationally, so it felt natural and indisputable to award the title to three most active of them.
Lorna, Toni and Angela are already thinking of getting together and doing even more good. We’re already looking forward to seeing such powerful trio in action!
