Jack’s shopping spree wish!
Thirteen year old Jack Seddon was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in January 2014. Throughout his treatment, Jack has maintained his love of shopping – it is his favourite hobby and he keeps up to date with the latest fashion trends! So Make-A-Wish® UK, the charity that grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions, granted Jack’s wish to have a shopping spree in London and visit his favourite shop…Primark®!
Jack, from Salford, travelled to London for the first of his shopping experiences - an exciting visit to Harrods, followed by a special afternoon tea. Jack was then taken in a limo to his favourite shop, Primark. He spent the afternoon browsing the store and trying on lots of clothes including a Christmas jumper for the festive season! Jack received a goody bag from both Primark and Harrods and made plenty of fashion purchases on his wish!
Mum Victoria said: “Jack really enjoyed the whole wish but one of his favourite moments was having his photo taken in Primark in his Christmas jumper as he felt like a bit of a star! The best moment for me was just seeing him happy and the smile on his face – he was in his element doing what he loved best - shopping!”
Jack had a 10 month course of chemotherapy before having part of his leg amputated in May. Jack reacted very badly to a second course of chemotherapy, losing weight rapidly and developing painful mouth sores which meant he was tube-fed. Doctors decided to terminate the rest of his treatment and he was declared in remission in September. Jack is hoping to get a prosthetic leg in 2015 and will continue to be monitored.
There are currently 20,000 children and young people in the UK fighting a life-threatening condition. This year, we hope to grant 900 wishes and need to raise £7 million to continue granting wishes in the future. Make-A-Wish receives no government funding – so every donation really does count.
This December, Primark are supporting Make-A-Wish through the sales of their Christmas jumpers. For every full price Christmas jumper sold in any store between Saturday 6 and Friday 12 December, Primark will donate £2 to Make-A-Wish.

Notes to editors:
1. The family are available for interview.
2. Please note that Make-A-Wish does not use phrases such as ‘terminally ill’ in order to respect the sensitive nature of life-threatening conditions and what they mean to children and young people and their families. We would ask that this approach is followed and that the term ‘life-threatening conditions’ is used in material for publication.
3. Make-A-Wish should be referred to as Make-A-Wish ® UK in the first instance. Thereafter ‘Make-A-Wish’ is suitable. We would ask that you try to keep ‘Make-A-Wish’ on the same line.
