Thanks to his kind supporters, Ethan’s wish to be an American Police Officer for the day came true!
Ethan, aged 6, is living with non-correctable and palliated congenital heart defects. The condition can require surgery and the symptoms include rapid heartbeat, excessive sweating and extreme tiredness. Ethan is often breathless and he is unable to walk long distances.
Ethan knew straight away what he wanted to wish for, to be an American police officer for the day and ride a cop car! He showed us his teddy dressed as an American Cop and an array of collectable police cars from all over the world, which he loves.
On the day of his wish, Ethan and his family travelled to Leeds and on the following morning were picked up in a Limo to take them to the West Yorkshire Police Training Facility at Carr Gate. The Limo was also in convoy with two American Police cars.
When arriving at the West Yorkshire Police Training Facility, Ethan and his brother Calum were told they would be working with the Yorkshire Police on Operation Arizona – a joint operation between the American cops and West Yorkshire Police to capture a group of international criminals. Ethan and his brother were given training on firearms, tasers and bringing down the baddies with dogs.
Before they went out to catch the baddies, they took a trip in the Police cars to McDonalds who kindly donated lunch.
Intelligence was given throughout the day on the baddies’ location and, at one point; Ethan was part of a high-speed car chase and took down one of the baddies with a fake stinger. A couple of the baddies made off by foot, but Ethan, his brother and the Police soon took them down and escorted them to custody.
Ethan and Callum got to explore inside a Police helicopter and were presented with a certificate at the end of the day for all their brave work.
Mum, Jennie, was bowled over by the thought, effort and time given by everyone. She said, “We’ve enjoyed everything. Everybody’s put in so much effort today, they’ve pulled out all the stops. A lot of people were involved in Ethan’s wish and we couldn’t have asked for a better day.
It’s fantastic what Make-A-Wish do, the hope and joy they give to so many children is just phenomenal. We’ve had a day to remember.”
A big thank you to the West Yorkshire Police who went above and beyond to make Ethan’s wish as magical as possible.
