Four-year-old Jack from Barnsley just loves Christmas! His wish is to meet the real Santa and his reindeer.
“Jack is fascinated by the magic of Santa, always trying to work out how he gets into the house to deliver the presents and where he leaves his reindeer. He also loves to leave out a mince pie on Christmas eve and seeing it all eaten up on Christmas morning,” Jack’s mum Emma told us.
Jack is fighting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) after being diagnosed earlier this year, just one week after his 4th birthday.
Emma remembers, “We knew something wasn’t right about October 2016. Jack was very pale which is unusual for him and we noticed a limp in his right leg.
It took quite a long time to diagnose; at first, doctors thought it was a bone infection in the hip called osteomyelitis, and Jack was taken into hospital for 6 weeks to have intravenous antibiotics to treat the infection.
In the end, further blood tests and a bone marrow test revealed that he had leukaemia.”
Jack is now 9 months into a long, three-year treatment plan, due to finish in April 2020.
When first diagnosed, he had weekly chemotherapy in the spine as well as daily oral chemotherapy to try to shock the body into remission. He also had four blood transfusions.
His maintenance treatment now includes daily oral chemotherapy and an injection every 2 months and then chemotherapy into the spine every 3 months.
Despite all of this Jack is a happy-go-luck boy who is always laughing and really enjoys nursery. He even has himself two girlfriends; one he wants to marry and one he just wants to take out for burgers!
Due to Jack’s illness, the family can’t travel too far from a hospital, so Jack’s wish is to meet Santa at Lapland UK where he will also get to meet elves and reindeer in a day to remember.
